Danish companies fail to implement social media

An increasing majority of the Danish population embrace Facebook as an indispensable online communication tool. Still, seventy percent of Danish companies hesitate to implement social media in their communicative strategies.

In May 2010 Holm Kommunikation A/S investigated the efforts of 250 Danish companies on Facebook and Twitter. The study revealed that Danish companies are reluctant to utilize these platforms as part of a dynamic PR strategy focusing on user-dialogue.

Highlights:

  • Only one thirds of the companies investigated had an online company profile on Facebook accessible to the general public
  • While few companies had publicly accessible Facebook profiles, every other had closed company profiles meant for employee use only
  • Among the companies with an active social media profile, forty-three percent were present on Facebook, nineteen percent present on Twitter, and thirty-eight on both platforms
